This year marks a significant milestone for us as we celebrate our 50th anniversary in the field of craniomaxillofacial surgery products. In the year 1975, the world was a very different place.
“A time when people drove without seat belts in cars, […] when the roads were narrow, […] and therapeutic methods in jaw and facial surgery included stitching facial wounds and the use of wires for the treatment of fractures and bimaxillary fixation”, recalls Prof. Maxime Champy, whose pioneering work in the development of osteosynthesis techniques revolutionized the treatment of facial skull fractures during that era.
Back in the 1970s, Karl Leibinger heard of Prof. Champy’s ingenious idea about stable dynamic osteosynthesis through the fixation with mini plates. Until then, it was believed that stable fixation could only be achieved with large metal plates – the bigger, the better. Karl Leibinger decided to meet with Prof. Champy and eventually started manufacturing standard osteosynthesis plates for surgeries in the CMF area. We continued to develop bone screws, screwdrivers, tools to bend the plates, and much more for Prof. Champy, who was enthusiastic about the products’ quality. From then on, the product range has grown and grown.
Together with passionate people, we have developed from pioneer to global market leader in the field of CMF surgery. We owe our leading position not least to our innovative strength in virtual planning, the development of customized implants, and the use of advanced biomaterials. Through these technologies, we are establishing new standards in surgical care and continually striving to provide the best possible solutions for our patients.
During our anniversary year, we would love to celebrate our CMF surgery portfolio (LevelOne/L1® titanium osteosynthesis, Distraction, resorbable osteosynthesis with SonicWeld Rx®, and Individual Patient Solutions with IPS®) with you. Following, we would like to focus LevelOne/L1® titanium osteosynthesis.
Thanks to you and all other CMF enthusiast for being a part of our story. We look forward to continuing this journey of innovation and excellence together with you.
With LevelOne/L1®, we offer you innovative and complete systems for osteosynthesis in CMF surgery, combining storage modules with screws, plates, and instruments which you can always put together individually.
The L1® Midface offers a clear and complete storage system for plates and the proven maxDrive® screws with a diameter of 1.5 mm for restoring the structures in the midface. In order to have a variation of different plates, the storage system includes plates with three different profile thicknesses
The cranial vault is of crucial importance in terms of function and aesthetics. We developed the L1® Cranium system to restore the function and aesthetics of the cranial vault. The special self-drilling oneDrive screws with a diameter of 1.5 mm fit perfectly with the special ultraOne plates.
You can use the ThreadLock system for mandibula trauma and reconstruction interventions. The system combines locking screws that can form a union with suitable locking plates – even in angular positions. We offer special pre-shaped “ThreadLock TS smart” plates within the product range.
The L1® Mandible ReconGuide provides an innovative, reusable, semi-standardized solution that assists you with conventional resection in everyday clinical routine.
With L1® Smart3D, we have succeeded in designing an anatomically pre-shaped plate line for midfacial and mandibular fractures that matches the complexity of the facial skeleton.
L1® MI Orthognathics comprises instruments and implants specially developed for minimally invasive orthognathic surgery. To ensure a safe and reproducible procedure, the instruments are arranged using sequence templates. Then, they are used step by step.
The entire procedure is based on Prof. Dr. Dr. Gwen R.J. Swennen's many years of experience. Maxillofacial and Facial Plastic Surgery, AZ St-Jan, Bruges, Belgium.
