On August 6, 2025, we welcomed Manfred Lucha, Baden-Württemberg’s Minister for Social Affairs, Health, and Integration, to our Tuttlingen site as part of his summer tour. The visit, hosted together with Medical Mountains, focused on cutting-edge medical technology and gave the minister a behind-the-scenes look at the company’s latest innovations.
The visit centered around current research and development projects in digital health and artificial intelligence. One highlight was the IPS inSilico® software – a platform that uses computer simulations to plan surgeries, make diagnoses, and design treatments. It helps doctors make faster and more accurate decisions and assess treatment success ahead of time.
Another featured innovation was an AI tool launched earlier this year that automatically segments CT scan data of bones, making it easier to plan custom-made implants for patients. In surgical instruments, the team presented Scalebox AI, a project that uses AI to recognize surgical tools automatically. This kind of tech could streamline hospital workflows and improve how instruments are managed.
“Over the past few years, we’ve made targeted investments in digital technologies to help doctors and hospital staff improve surgical care,” said Michael Martin, Managing Director.
Beyond AI, we also showed how traditional surgical methods are being transformed through digital tools. With the xRS Visualizor, we introduced a new software for oral and maxillofacial surgery. These tools use virtual and augmented reality to create immersive 3D views of complex procedures, opening up new possibilities for planning and performing surgeries.
The visit also touched on broader industry challenges – from strict regulations and heavy bureaucracy to the need for sustainable healthcare. Minister Lucha emphasized the importance of strong partnerships between government and businesses to drive innovation. He also highlighted the value of healthy workplaces that support both physical well-being and employee appreciation.
Minister Lucha’s visit reinforced our role as a tech pioneer in medical devices and a trusted partner in building a forward-thinking, patient-centered healthcare system.
