  • You have completed a technical education (HTL, university of applied sciences, university degree, or equivalent practical experience) in electronics, mechatronics, engineering physics, computer science, or a related field.
  • You bring experience in systems engineering at the interface between hardware and software.
  • You are experienced in defining technical requirements, designing system architectures, and providing technical guidance to development partners and suppliers.
  • You have a basic understanding of the imaging chain, including sensors, optics, illumination, and calibration.
  • You enjoy making architectural decisions across different domains and communicating them effectively to both developers and stakeholders.
  • You have excellent German and English language skills.
  • You are willing to travel occasionally for project meetings with partners and pilot deployments, primarily within Europe.
  • Ideally, you have experience with machine learning-based vision systems. You do not need to train models yourself, but a solid understanding of their data quality requirements is an advantage.

We are developing an AI-powered system for the automatic recognition of surgical instruments. To operate reliably in a clinical environment, cameras, illumination, image processing, AI models, and the application layer must work together as a single integrated system.

This is where your role comes in. You will define the system architecture, drive hardware development together with our colleagues at KLS Martin, oversee the imaging pipeline from image acquisition through to the handover to the computer vision models, and ensure their seamless integration into the overall application. To succeed in this role, you bring a solid background in hardware development while also being comfortable discussing system architecture and design decisions with software engineers.

  • Technical ownership of our AI-powered surgical instrument recognition system, with a strong focus on hardware.
  • Define system requirements and architecture, and provide technical leadership throughout implementation in collaboration with the hardware, computer vision, and software development teams.
  • Own the interfaces between hardware, computer vision, and software. Working closely with domain experts, you will define how these components interact and ensure they come together as a cohesive system rather than a collection of individual solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance to partners and suppliers, particularly in the hardware domain, including the evaluation of alternative technical solutions.
  • Contribute to technical documentation in a regulated environment in close collaboration with our Quality Engineering team.

The annual salary is 55.356 € gross on a full-time basis according to the IT collective agreement.
